Grillen

So, last night I got to hang out with some physics students who have been nice to me. We went to the local Seepark (lit. lake park) and grilled, which is what germans our age like to do in their spare time. They like to do lots of more healthy things than us when it comes to activities, Linnea and her boyfriend Chris have a tandem bicycle, which is interesting in that it is one of the many different types of Räder (wheels) I've come into contact with here. There's the normal Fahrrad (bicyle), Tandemfahhrad (two person bike!), A bicycle where you lean back, a bierbike[1] (bar on wheels) and my personal favorite, the Einrad (lit. one-wheel = unicycle) which small german children actually ride around sometimes. My frind Nina can ride it, though I have not yet witnessed the feat. It was fun though, hanging out with them and getting to see a little more of german culture. It's been really hard getting to know germans here, between the language barrier and, as Nina put it, the fact that they're all already been together for 3 years. I would like to point out that, while I don't condone the cooking of other animal's flesh, the germans grill more sophisticatedly, with many different types of meat and no lighter fluid at all.

Linnea's boyfriend comes from the DDR side of Berlin, and so it's funny to see them make fun of him for that (apparently people from the east part have certain tendencies and whatnot). Also, apparently the old DDR has some work ethic issues because the state used to do things for them, and hasn't entirely recovered. Linnea also explained to me a little about why engineers are sexy. I'm very glad I made some science friends here. :)
